A Layover in Beijing

During our return trip from Japan, we had the chance to pass through Beijing, the second world’s busiest airports by passenger traffic.

Since we had a limited amount of time (11 hours of layover) and we didn’t know the city at all, we decided to book a guided tour. We chose the Tour-Beijing company from a wide range of possibilities.

We were very satisfied with this company, so I’ll recommend it. Our tour guide Jack waited for us at the airport even before the time we expected and he was immediately able to help us with the change in currency. He was well prepared and spoke excellent English! He was able to give all the historical information without being boring, but transmitting us his extreme passion and love for the city. The company arranged an intensive and super amazing tour of Beijing, fitting with our time limits.

The coolest part of our tour was climbing the Great Wall, one of the 7 world wonders. The Great wall is more than 8 thousand km long and it dates back to 215 B.C.. It covers almost the whole country, so you can see it from a lot of places in China. We chose one of the less crowded ones. From the Beijing airport we drove for two hours to the starting point of Mutianyu. We took the funicular to get the top and we had a long walk under the Beijing sun. (Take a lot of water). We passed by hills, impressive towers, small shelters and lookout points that show the original defensive nature of the wall. We didn’t take the funicular to go down, but we went back by a weird kind of “bob”, that was a really fun experience.

After that, we went back to the city and we saw the Chinese capital during the night, passing by the Tiananmen square, the enchanting lake, the ghost street and also the food market, where you can see people eating live bugs.

Finally we went to the “place”, a famous area full of screens, and we went up the 6th floor of a large skyscraper to enjoyed the lively view!

In addition, our guide suggested to see a Kung-fu show, which we wouldn’t have been able to see if we had been alone. It was an unforgotten experience to se men

We are very lucky to have found this company and especially to meet a great person like Jack! We definitely recommend this tour to anyone who’s traveling through Beijing.
